How An Urgent Demolition Was Completed Ahead Of Schedule When Asbestos Doubled The Timescale

Case Study: Urgent Demolition Was Completed Ahead Of Schedule 1

The Challenge:

“Can we have a quote and can you notify the HSE and send all health and safety paperwork straight to the client, today!”

Having been let down by their contractor, our client had a demanding timescale to meet when they found out they had an asbestos issue. At Oracle, we like to meet client’s demands but are glad not all clients ask for a quote, HSE notification and all paperwork completed and the job ready to go in just one day. However, we sometimes like a challenge.

What did we do:

Within 2 hours we had an estimator on site. The quotation details were then transferred to the office via telephone. The quotation was subsequently raised and sent to the client within three hours of receiving the initial call.

We received confirmation to proceed and before the end of the day the HSE had been notified and all documentation was sent to Collins Earthworks client.

The asbestos removal timescale for a project like this would be two weeks. This would mean that if demolition started after completion of our work, then the four-week demolition schedule would not be met.

In order for the client to meet their deadline, we reviewed our set up and changed our scope to allow access into the rear of the building. This meant that we had to remove several areas of asbestos separately from the main works. Although this potentially would slow our programme we increased our labour for several days to ensure our timetable would be met.

Once we had made safe access, Collins Earthworks were able to soft strip the entire rear of the building while we were undertaking the main asbestos works. Our enclosed area was built with a reinforced timber side which allowed partial demolition of the areas we were not working in. We worked alongside the client and used wetting techniques to ensure general demolition dust outside of the asbestos enclosure would not be a problem. This meant the demolition was completed days ahead of schedule.

The result:

Oracle Solutions completed the work in an ultra quick turnaround time, the asbestos was safely removed and the building demolished on time.

Delivering the asbestos removal and demolition of the building within the tight timescale resulted in Collins Earthworks and their client being very happy with no overruns and no additional costs.

What our client had to say:

“We had a four week timescale, we had been let down by the clients own asbestos contractor. We needed a very quick price which had to be competitive. We needed it that day and once received we needed the works notifying to the HSE that day and all relevant paperwork had to be completed ready for the client. We asked, we certainly didn’t expect, but Oracle did it. Oracle also ran their programme in such a way as we were able to undertake sections of the demolition ahead of programme. This meant that we were able to deliver the complete demolition on time.”
