This course provides an overview of managing asbestos containing materials in buildings. This training course gives duty holders and appointed persons an introduction and basic understanding of their legal responsibilities under the control of asbestos regulations. It includes asbestos management plans, action plans, assessing risk and ongoing management of asbestos risk.
Who are these courses aimed at?
These courses are aimed at giving the required introductory knowledge to help duty holders and appointed persons to comply with their responsibilities under current regulations.
Generally this course is utilised by those who are given the task of being an appointed person or duty holder. This is generally a site manager or senior facilities or maintenance manager. However the course is a suitable introduction for anyone who may have involvement in managing asbestos within a building or multiple buildings.
How long is the training valid for?
In accordance with approved codes of practice this training should be refreshed as a minimum every 12 months. This is to ensure candidates are kept up to date with any legislative changes or requirements. It also acts to keep knowledge fresh.
How long are the courses?
There are three courses available:
This is Initial training with no previous UKATA asbestos awareness training undertaken. The expected duration for this training will be 1 day or a minimum of 6 hours tutor/learning time. This training must include the asbestos awareness element.
This is the second course available. It is only available to those that can prove they have undertaken UKATA certified asbestos awareness training in the last 6 months. The expected duration for this training will be ½ day or 3 hours.
This is the refresher course. It is only available to those that have successfully completed course 1 or 2 in the last 12 months. The expected duration for the refresher training will be determined by the training provider carrying out a training needs analysis and should be no less than 3 hours of tutor time.
What does the course teach you?
The course teaches and introduces you to the legal responsibilities and requirements of being a duty holder or appointed person.
The course includes understanding asbestos management plans, action plans, risk assessments, surveys and general asbestos management.
